Andy Golding asked Nik Cockshott if he would like to sing live with Dragon Welding at a few shows in 2023. A lot of the Dragon Welding tracks up to then had been instrumental, but ‘These Are Dangerous Times’ was a song from the first Dragon Welding album from 2019. Andy created a new backing track specifically for the live shows, but this new version soon became a crowd favourite and has taken on a life of it’s own, culminating in this four track CD release of mixes.

Andy and Nik have already completed one album entitled ‘The Naughty Step’ and are in discussions on releasing it soon. They have also nearly completed a second album and are planning a third. This track will not appear on any of the albums.

Scratch away the surface
It will become apparent
At night they hide, all things are grey
The truth a wet transparent

But don’t try scratching water
Forked tongues become a knife
The night has ears, so bite your lips
It’s frog eat fly, it’s pond life

We couldn’t understand why there were so many frogs and toads and spiders in a confined but secluded idyllic spot. There was no obvious pond in the immediate vicinity. Then the smell from the early morning and late night trundle of oversized lorries down narrow country lanes started to intrigue us. The leafy glade hid an industrial compound which turned out to be a facility for recycling fallen beasts, their unwanted flesh and bones deemed unsafe even for pet food. When decomposition of abandoned earthly forms is your business, your main by-product is flies. Lots of flies.

Later in the summer we decamped to Norfolk in the hope of filming some newts, water boatmen and other surface tension wonders, but sadly even the frogs and toads couldn’t protect us from the invisible airborne enemy.
